Description

This Taco Ring recipe is a fun and easy way to enjoy all your favorite taco flavors wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. Ground beef seasoned with taco spices, onions, and salsa are layered with sharp cheddar cheese and wrapped in crescent triangles that bake to golden perfection. Served with classic taco toppings like sour cream, avocado, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and jalapenos, this dish makes a crowd-pleasing appetizer or meal perfect for gatherings or casual dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Taco Ring

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 ounce taco seasoning (about 2 tablespoons)
  • ½ cup salsa
  • 16 ounces refrigerated crescent roll dough (2 cans)
  • 2 cups freshly shredded cheddar cheese

For Serving

  • Salsa
  • Sour cream
  • Avocado, sliced or diced
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Sliced jalapeno peppers

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to prepare for baking the taco ring.
  2. Sauté Onions: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef and taco seasoning to the skillet. Cook, stirring and breaking up the beef, until fully browned and no longer pink.
  4. Add Salsa: Stir in ½ cup salsa into the cooked beef mixture. Remove the skillet from heat and set aside.
  5. Prepare Crescent Dough: Open the crescent roll cans, unroll the dough, and separate the triangles.
  6. Arrange Dough: Place parchment paper on a baking sheet or pizza pan. Put a bowl about 6 inches wide in the center of the parchment. Arrange crescent roll triangles around the bowl with the short sides facing inward and overlapping each other to form a ring.
  7. Add Filling: Spoon the beef and salsa mixture evenly onto the bottom of the crescent dough ring, leaving the pointed tips of the dough triangles free.
  8. Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously over the meat filling.
  9. Fold Dough: Take the pointed ends of each crescent triangle, fold them over the filling, and tuck underneath the dough at the base of the ring to seal.
  10. Bake: Bake the taco ring in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown.
  11. Serve: Remove from oven and serve warm with your favorite taco toppings such as additional salsa, sour cream, avocado, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and jalapenos.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for ground beef for a lighter option.
  • Adjust the amount of taco seasoning based on your spice preference; use mild or hot seasoning as desired.
  • Make sure to seal the dough tips underneath well to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the oven for best texture.
  • For a gluten-free variation, use gluten-free crescent dough or puff pastry if available.
