Description

Steak & Cheese Dirty Fry Burritos combine tender flank steak, crispy baked French fries, sautéed bell peppers and onions, and a blend of melted cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. This hearty and flavorful burrito is finished with a dollop of sour cream and fresh cilantro, making it a perfect comfort meal that’s both satisfying and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat & Marinade

  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Vegetables & Cheese

  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Other

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 2 cups frozen French fries
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  1. Bake French Fries: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the frozen French fries on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until crispy, then set aside.
  2. Marinate Steak: Rub the flank steak with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Sear Steak: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated flank steak and sear each side for 3-4 minutes or until it reaches your preferred doneness. Remove from heat, let it rest for a few minutes, then slice thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  4. Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers, sautéing until they become soft and slightly caramelized, adding depth of flavor.
  5. Warm Tortillas: Heat the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds to make them pliable and easier to fold.
  6. Assemble Burritos: Lay each tortilla flat and place a few pieces of sliced steak in the center. Add a portion of baked French fries, caramelized onions, and bell peppers. Generously sprinkle with shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Wrap Burritos: Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling, then roll it up tightly to enclose all ingredients securely into a burrito shape.
  8. Heat Burritos: Place the burritos seam-side down on a skillet or clean baking sheet. Heat on a skillet over medium heat or in an oven preheated to 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes, until the cheese inside melts and the burritos are heated through.
  9. Serve: Serve hot with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro on top for added freshness and creaminess.

Notes

  • Letting the steak rest after cooking helps retain juiciness and ensures tender slices.
  • Baking the fries until crispy provides a better texture inside the burrito.
  • You can substitute cheddar and mozzarella with other cheese blends if preferred.
  • For a spicier version, add some sliced jalapeños or hot sauce inside the burrito.
  • Use warmed tortillas to prevent tearing while folding.
  • The burritos can be made ahead of time and reheated, but fresh heat-up ensures melty cheese and crisp edges.
