  • 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the filling:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

For the caramel layer:

  • 1 cup caramel sauce, thick
  • 1/2 tsp flaky sea salt, plus more for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the crust: Mix the cake mix, melted butter, and egg to form a soft dough. Press into the pan to form the crust.
  3. Make the filling: Beat cream cheese until smooth, then add eggs, vanilla, melted butter, and powdered sugar. Pour half over crust.
  4. Add caramel: Drizzle caramel sauce over the layer, sprinkle with sea salt.
  5. Finish assembling: Pour remaining cream cheese mixture over the top. Bake for 40–45 minutes.
  6. Cool and serve: Cool completely, refrigerate for 2 hours, then cut into bars. Sprinkle with additional sea salt if desired.

  • For homemade caramel, cook 1 cup granulated sugar until amber, then add butter and heavy cream. Let cool before using.
