Ingredients
Scale
Pastry:
- 1 sheet Puff Pastry (thawed)
Cheese Mixture:
- 1 cup Parmesan Cheese (freshly grated)
- 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese (freshly grated)
Vegetables & Seasonings:
- 2 cups Fresh Spinach (drained and dried)
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder (optional)
Finishing Touch:
- 1 egg (Egg Wash – optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the freshly grated Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses with the drained and dried fresh spinach. Add garlic powder and onion powder, then mix thoroughly to create a flavorful filling.
- Roll Out the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, unfold or roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth out creases and slightly enlarge it for easier twisting.
- Assemble the Twists: Spread the cheese and spinach mixture evenly over half of the puff pastry sheet. Fold the other half over the filling to encase it, pressing gently to seal the edges.
- Cut and Twist: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the filled pastry into 12 equal strips. Carefully twist each strip several times and place them spaced apart on a lined baking sheet.
- Apply Egg Wash: Lightly brush each twist with beaten egg to promote golden browning during baking, if desired.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the twists on the center rack for about 20 minutes or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly on the baking tray. Serve warm or at room temperature as a delicious appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Ensure spinach is well drained to avoid soggy pastries.
- You can substitute spinach with kale or remove for a purely cheesy twist.
- For added flavor, sprinkle some red pepper flakes or Italian herbs in the filling.
- Egg wash is optional but recommended for a shiny golden finish.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best texture.
