Description

This German Chocolate Pie features a rich and decadent chocolate filling atop a crunchy Oreo cookie crust, layered with sweet shredded coconut, pecans, and a creamy chocolate topping. Perfect for chocolate lovers looking for a no-bake dessert that combines classic German chocolate flavors in pie form.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 24 Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Chocolate Filling

  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Coconut Topping

  • 1 ½ cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a sealed bag and crushing with a rolling pin. Mix the crushed cookies with 5 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter until evenly combined. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie dish to form a crust. Refrigerate while preparing the filling.
  2. Make the chocolate filling: In a small saucepan, gently heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chopped semi-sweet chocolate. Let it sit for 2 minutes to soften, then stir until smooth and glossy. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Pour the chocolate filling into the prepared crust and smooth the top. Return to the refrigerator to set for about 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare and add the coconut topping: In a mixing bowl, combine the sweetened shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, ¼ cup melted unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and chopped pecans if desired. Stir until well combined. Spread this mixture evenly over the set chocolate layer. Chill the pie in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until fully firm before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a nuttier flavor, gently toast the shredded coconut before mixing with other topping ingredients.
  • If you prefer a softer crust, reduce the amount of butter slightly.
  • The pie should be kept refrigerated and is best served chilled.
  • Chopped pecans are optional but add great texture and traditional German chocolate flavor.
  • Allow the pie to chill thoroughly for clean slices when serving.
