Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 24 Oreo cookies, crushed
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Chocolate Filling
- 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Coconut Topping
- 1 ½ cups sweetened shredded coconut
- ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the crust: Crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a sealed bag and crushing with a rolling pin. Mix the crushed cookies with 5 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter until evenly combined. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie dish to form a crust. Refrigerate while preparing the filling.
- Make the chocolate filling: In a small saucepan, gently heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chopped semi-sweet chocolate. Let it sit for 2 minutes to soften, then stir until smooth and glossy. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Pour the chocolate filling into the prepared crust and smooth the top. Return to the refrigerator to set for about 30 minutes.
- Prepare and add the coconut topping: In a mixing bowl, combine the sweetened shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, ¼ cup melted unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and chopped pecans if desired. Stir until well combined. Spread this mixture evenly over the set chocolate layer. Chill the pie in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until fully firm before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a nuttier flavor, gently toast the shredded coconut before mixing with other topping ingredients.
- If you prefer a softer crust, reduce the amount of butter slightly.
- The pie should be kept refrigerated and is best served chilled.
- Chopped pecans are optional but add great texture and traditional German chocolate flavor.
- Allow the pie to chill thoroughly for clean slices when serving.
