Description

Delicious and easy-to-make French Toast Muffins combine the comforting flavors of classic French toast with the convenience of a muffin. Made with day-old bread soaked in a cinnamon-spiced custard and baked to golden perfection, these muffins are perfect for a quick breakfast or brunch, and can be served with powdered sugar or maple syrup for added sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale

French Toast Muffins Ingredients

  • 6 slices of day-old bread (such as brioche or challah), cubed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)
  • Maple syrup, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin or line with paper liners to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Custard Blend: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, vanilla extract, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Soak Bread Cubes: Gently fold the cubed day-old bread into the custard mixture, making sure each piece is thoroughly coated. Let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard fully.
  4. Fill Muffin Cups: Evenly divide the soaked bread mixture among the prepared muffin cups, pressing down slightly in each cup to help the muffins hold together during baking.
  5. Add Melted Butter: Drizzle the melted unsalted butter over the tops of each muffin to add richness and promote golden browning.
  6. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the centers are set and no longer jiggly.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the muffins from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before carefully removing them. Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor and texture, consider mixing in a handful of chopped pecans, raisins, or chocolate chips into the bread mixture before baking.
  • These French Toast Muffins can be made ahead of time and reheated for a quick and convenient breakfast on busy mornings.
