Ingredients
Scale
Apple Dumplings
- 2 tubes refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 8 slices each
- 21 ounces apple pie filling
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Caramel Sauce
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 12-ounce can Mountain Dew
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce (for drizzling)
Instructions
- Prepare the apples and dough: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel, core, and cut the Granny Smith apples into 8 slices each. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles. Place one apple slice on the widest end of each dough triangle and spoon a small amount of apple pie filling onto the apple slice. Sprinkle ground cinnamon over the filling.
- Wrap and arrange the dumplings: Carefully roll each triangle around the apple slice, sealing the edges well to prevent filling from leaking. Place the wrapped dumplings seam side down in a greased 9×13 inch casserole dish, arranging them close but not touching.
- Make the caramel sauce and bake: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth. Pour in the can of Mountain Dew and bring the mixture to a boil. Remove from heat and immediately pour the sauce evenly over the dumplings in the casserole dish. Bake for 25 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and cooked through. Once baked, drizzle with caramel sauce before serving for extra sweetness.
Notes
- Use Granny Smith apples for the best balance of tartness and sweetness.
- Ensure the dough edges are sealed tightly to prevent leaking during baking.
- Mountain Dew adds a unique citrus flavor but can be substituted with lemon-lime soda if unavailable.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgent dessert.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated gently before serving.
