Description

Camp Fire Cupcakes are a fun and festive dessert perfect for camping-themed parties or summer celebrations. These chocolate cupcakes are topped with rich frosting, mini marshmallows, crushed graham crackers, and pretzel sticks arranged to look like a mini campfire, complete with colorful candy melt flames. A delightful twist on classic s’mores that kids and adults will love decorating and devouring.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cupcakes

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box – usually eggs, oil, and water)

Toppings and Decorations

  • 1 cup chocolate frosting
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup crushed graham crackers
  • 12 pretzel sticks, broken in half
  • Red, orange, and yellow candy melts or colored sprinkles
  • Optional: Chocolate chunks or mini chocolate bars for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cupcake Batter: Preheat the oven according to the cake mix package instructions. Line a 12-count muffin tin with cupcake liners and prepare the chocolate cake mix as directed, including eggs, oil, and water. Divide the batter evenly among the liners.
  2. Bake Cupcakes: Bake the cupcakes for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and allow the cupcakes to cool completely.
  3. Frost Cupcakes: Once cooled, spread a generous layer of chocolate frosting over each cupcake to create a smooth base for the decorations.
  4. Add Crushed Graham Crackers: Sprinkle crushed graham crackers around the edges of each frosted cupcake to mimic dirt or ash surrounding the campfire.
  5. Place Marshmallows: Arrange 3–4 mini marshmallows in the center of each cupcake to represent the glowing embers.
  6. Build the Campfire: Use broken pretzel sticks to form a small teepee structure on top of the marshmallows, simulating firewood stacked for a campfire.
  7. Create Flames: Melt red, orange, and yellow candy melts according to package instructions (or use colored sprinkles) and drizzle or sprinkle them over the marshmallows and pretzels to resemble flickering flames.
  8. Optional Garnish: Add chocolate chunks or mini chocolate bars around the campfire structure for extra chocolatey goodness.
  9. Optional Toasting: For toasted marshmallows, place the decorated cupcakes under a broiler for 30–60 seconds, watching carefully to prevent burning.

Notes

  • Use the broiler cautiously to toast marshmallows as this process happens quickly and can burn easily.
  • These cupcakes are ideal for camping-themed birthdays, summer parties, or outdoor gatherings.
  • Encourage kids to decorate their own cupcakes as a fun, interactive activity.
