Ingredients
Scale
Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak
- 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
- 1 cup buffalo wing sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or provolone or pepper jack)
- Ranch or blue cheese dressing, for drizzling (optional)
- Chopped green onions or parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté until they become caramelized and golden, which should take about 8 to 10 minutes. Once done, remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
- Prepare Buffalo Chicken: Using the same skillet, add the shredded cooked chicken and buffalo wing sauce. Stir well to coat the chicken evenly and heat through for 3 to 4 minutes until warmed.
- Preheat Broiler: Preheat your oven broiler or alternatively, a griddle pan to prepare for toasting the rolls.
- Toast Hoagie Rolls: Slice the hoagie rolls open lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Place them under the broiler for 1 to 2 minutes, or until they turn golden and slightly toasted.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Stuff each toasted hoagie roll with the buffalo chicken mixture, then add the caramelized onions on top. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the filling.
- Melt Cheese: Return the assembled sandwiches to the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cheese melts fully and becomes bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve: If desired, drizzle ranch or blue cheese dressing over the sandwiches and garnish with chopped green onions or parsley. Serve the sandwiches hot for the best flavor.
Notes
- You can swap mozzarella cheese with provolone or pepper jack for different flavor profiles.
- Use leftover cooked chicken for convenience or poach chicken breasts to prepare fresh.
- Broiling times may vary depending on your oven, so watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Omit the ranch or blue cheese dressing for a spicier, tangier sandwich.
- For extra heat, add sliced jalapeños or hot sauce inside the sandwich.
