Description

These Brown Sugar Pineapple Wings are a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors with a hint of spice. Crispy on the outside and tender inside, the wings are coated in a sticky pineapple and brown sugar glaze that bursts with tropical goodness. Ideal as an appetizer or main dish, they can be pan-fried or baked to suit your preference.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Wings

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch or flour (for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons oil (for frying, if pan-frying)

Glaze

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wings: Pat chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture, which will help them get crispy during cooking.
  2. Coat the Wings: Lightly coat the wings with cornstarch or flour. This step is essential to achieve an extra crispy texture after cooking.
  3. Cook the Wings: Choose your cooking method. For pan-frying, heat oil in a skillet and fry the wings until golden brown on both sides, about 5–7 minutes per side. For baking, preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake the wings for 40–45 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  4. Make the Glaze: In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, and pineapple chunks. Simmer over medium heat for 8–10 minutes until the glaze thickens. If you like a bit of heat, add chili flakes at this stage.
  5. Coat the Wings in Glaze: Toss the cooked wings in the hot pineapple glaze until they are fully coated and sticky.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the glazed wings. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can use either fresh or canned pineapple chunks based on availability.
  • Adjust chili flakes amount to control the heat level to your preference.
  • For a gluten-free option, use cornstarch and gluten-free soy sauce.
  • Baking is a healthier alternative to pan-frying and still yields crispy wings when they are properly coated.
