Ingredients
Scale
Sweet Potato Fries
- 2 lb. medium-sized sweet potatoes
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch (or tapioca starch)
- 1 tsp. salt (to taste)
- 2 Tbsp. oil (avocado or olive)
- ¼-½ tsp. black pepper (optional)
- Fresh parsley or cilantro (finely chopped, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F to ensure it is hot enough to crisp the fries properly during baking.
- Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: Peel the skin from the sweet potatoes using a vegetable peeler for a smoother texture. Cut each potato in half lengthwise to create manageable sections for fries.
- Slice into Fries: Place the potato halves flat-side down on the cutting board and cut about ¼-inch apart. Then turn these slices flat-side down and cut into long, thin strips approximately ¼ to ½ inch thick for uniform fries.
- Coat with Starch: Arrange the potato strips on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cornstarch over the potatoes and toss to coat evenly, which helps achieve a crispier texture when baked.
- Season and Oil: Drizzle the 2 tablespoons of oil over the starch-coated fries, sprinkle with salt and optional black pepper, then toss again to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Arrange Fries for Baking: Lay the fries out in a single layer on the baking sheet, ensuring they do not overlap to allow for even air circulation and crisping.
- Bake the Fries: Place the sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes until the fries start to turn golden at the edges.
- Flip and Continue Baking: Flip all the fries over carefully to promote even cooking and return to the oven for an additional 12 to 15 minutes until the fries are browned and crisp.
- Serve: Once done, garnish with freshly chopped parsley or cilantro if desired. Serve warm with homemade remoulade sauce or sriracha mayo for dipping and enjoy your crispy, flavorful baked sweet potato fries.
Notes
- Using cornstarch helps to create a crisp coating on the fries, but tapioca starch is a good substitute if preferred.
- Adjust seasoning such as salt and pepper according to taste preference.
- For extra crispiness, do not overcrowd the baking sheet; use multiple sheets if necessary.
- Sweet potato fries are best served immediately for maximum crispness.
- These fries can be reheated in the oven to regain some crispness if stored refrigerated.
