Scale
Vegetables
- 1 medium-sized green cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, minced
Sauces and Seasonings
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare Vegetables: Slice the cabbage, bell pepper, and green onions and julienne the carrot to have all your vegetables ready for cooking.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, and black pepper. Stir well and set aside.
- Heat the Oil: Warm a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat, then add the vegetable oil and allow it to heat up.
- Saute Aromatics: Add minced garlic and ginger to the hot oil and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
- Cook Bell Pepper and Carrot: Add the sliced bell pepper and julienned carrot to the wok. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften but still retain some crunch.
- Add Cabbage: Add the sliced cabbage to the wok and stir-fry everything together for 5-7 minutes until the cabbage softens but remains slightly crisp.
- Add Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the vegetables, tossing well to evenly coat all the ingredients.
- Combine Flavors: Continue stir-frying for another 2 minutes, allowing the sauce to meld with the vegetables and intensify the flavors.
- Finish Garnishing: Remove the wok from heat and sprinkle with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds for added texture and aroma.
- Serve: Serve the stir-fry hot as a delicious side dish or a light vegetarian main course.
Notes
- For a vegan version, substitute oyster sauce with mushroom or vegetarian oyster sauce.
- Adjust sugar and soy sauce quantities to suit your preferred sweetness and saltiness.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
- Use high heat for stir-frying to achieve a nice sear without overcooking vegetables.
- Feel free to add protein like tofu, chicken, or shrimp if desired.
